Liverpool host Leeds Saturday in Premier League!
The Premier League 2020-21 starts on Saturday 12th with four matches as the reigning champions Liverpool host Leeds.
Liverpool who won last season's Premier League by an outstanding performance face the Championship winners Leeds on the opening day of the 2020-21 season. It is Liverpools home game and Anfield will be the perfect place to start the season with a win.
Liverpool won the Premier League last season by 18 points. The gap could have been much more but Liverpool played sloppy after they had won the Premier league for sure. Manchester City ended up second and will try to bounce back this year.
Leeds are back in the Premier League after a 16-year absence from the top flight and will be eager to make an instant impact in their first game.
Only one favorite at Anfield
Liverpool are unbeaten at Anfield in Premier league since April 2017. That is 59 matches since so would be a miracle if Leeds could break this.
The form of Liverpool is outstanding as they have a record of 25 wins in 26 home league games – only once dropping points on a 1-1 draw with Burnley in July.
It has been four years since the two teams last met each other at the Merseyside. That happened in a League Cup game in November 2016, when Liverpool was better 2-0 thanks to goals in the last 15 minutes from Divock Origi and Ben Woodburn.
This game will be a good way for Liverpool to start the season with a win. Last year Liverpool took a easy win in the opener from Norwich, but this will be a harder game than last year.
On that occasion, Jürgen Klopp’s side dismantled Norwich 4-1 and it was game over before half-time, with Liverpool 3-0 up in the opening 28 minutes.
After an impressive pre-season, there looks a good chance that Takumi Minamino could play a role in the opening fixture.
Klopp is hopeful that skipper Jordan Henderson will be available for selection after returning to training. The international matches during the week could make changes to the opening lineup but for sure Virgil van Dijk will be starting.
Liverpool scored 85 goals in the Premier League last season and Leeds scored 77 in the Championship, suggesting both should get on the scoresheet this Saturday. Our tip for the game is ”both teams to score” and Liverpool to win.
